Environmental, Health
and Safety Report

President's Message

Brad Razook

Our commitment to compliance, continuous improvement and sustainability has positioned Flint Hills Resources to react appropriately to economic challenges in 2008 while contributing to the overall quality of life in our communities.

In this report on our 2008 environmental, health and safety performance and community stewardship, we present data that reflect the results of our efforts to use resources efficiently and operate safely and in an environmentally responsible way, and we describe how we work to be a good neighbor. Where possible, we compare ourselves against an industry standard or average to provide perspective.

Flint Hills Resources and our employees are committed to expanding our knowledge and seeking to develop measures that help us improve. For example, we track plant reliability. Plant interruptions can affect our ability to minimize emissions and impact our profitability. In Corpus Christi in 2008, we saw a significant improvement in our ability to limit operational upsets, which resulted in better reliability. In addition to tracking personal safety performance, we have introduced a new tool to measure process safety performance. This data can be found in this report.

Throughout our many communities, we also strive to be a good neighbor. We focus our support on education, the environment, and projects and organizations that seek to improve the quality of life in our communities. We also actively participate in a number of advisory panels to encourage communication. To extend that, we make additional EH&S performance data available on our Web site www.fhr.com. There you will find our policies and site-based data not included in this report.

Flint Hills Resources is committed to our MBM® Guiding Principles. We strive to operate with full compliance, and with integrity. We invite you to learn more about our efforts in this report and on our Web site.Sincerely
