FUELS AND AROMATICS

THE REWARDS OF REFINING

Consumer demand for refining is high, even as our nation explores alternative sources of energy such as wind and solar power. Refineries make jet fuel, oils, adhesives, asphalt and ingredients for everyday products that other energy processes are currently unable to generate.

Fuels

Flint Hills Resources’ three refineries have a combined crude oil processing capacity of more than 600,000 barrels per day. The Pine Bend Refinery in Rosemount, Minnesota, was established as the Great Northern Oil Company in 1955. Today, it’s among the cleanest, most efficient and safest refineries in the country, delivering transportation fuels throughout the Midwest. The Corpus Christi East and West refineries produce jet fuel, low-sulfur gasoline and diesel. Since 2002, we have spent about $940 million on refinery modifications in Texas, with another $600 million committed to increase domestic crude oil processing and reduce emissions.

Aromatics

With petrochemical plants in Corpus Christi and Port Arthur, Texas, we produce about 4.9 billion pounds of aromatics and derivatives per year. These chemicals are the basic building blocks for making clothing, carpet, tires, protective packaging for food and beverages, and much more.

Terminals

Gasoline, diesel and jet fuel produced at our refineries in Minnesota and Texas are distributed through a system of strategically located terminals operated by the company. Four Texas terminals were the first in the fuels industry to earn Voluntary Protection Programs STAR certification from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
